France launches scholarship for Nigerian students to learn French, sciences


France launches scholarship: The French Embassy in Nigeria, in collaboration with Campus France Nigeria, has introduced the “French + Sciences” scholarship program aimed at undergraduate students interested in studying French and sciences through a series of classes, workshops, and conferences.

This scholarship, the first of its kind from Campus France Nigeria, offers three to four weeks short-stay visas in June. The package includes a round-trip flight ticket, a monthly allowance, accommodation, and health and repatriation insurance.

The program comprises four simultaneous offerings in June. One of them is “Accent français – Montpellier: Focus on Sustainable Development,” scheduled for three weeks from June 9 to June 28, 2024.

Another program, “Ciel Bretagne – Brest: Sciences and Technologies of the Sea,” will run for three weeks from June 17 to July 5, 2024. Additionally, “CLA – Besançon: Micro, Nano, and Smart Technologies for Industrial Applications” will take place from June 3 to June 28, 2024.

The fourth program, “French in Normandy – Rouen: Focus on Transport and Energy,” commences in May and spans three weeks from May 27 to June 14, 2024.

This scholarship is open to Nigerians under 25 years old currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s program in sciences accredited by the National Universities Commission.

Interested applicants must submit a CV, a cover letter explaining their motivation to learn French, passport details, and proof of enrollment in a university for the 2023-2024 academic year to frenchsciences.nigeria@gmail.com. Applicants are also required to fill out an application form.

Successful applicants will receive an email by March 20 with details regarding travel arrangements and the visa application process. The French Embassy and Campus France Nigeria will facilitate contact with Campus France Paris for mobility arrangements.

The application deadline is March 11, 2024.

Additionally, the French Embassy has announced visa scholarships to France for PhD students, academic, and research staff interested in furthering their education and research in France.

According to Campus France, France hosted 1,019 Nigerian students between 2021 and 2022, marking a 96% increase from five years prior.

Among these students, 44% were women, 40% were enrolled in a Bachelor’s program, 44% were pursuing a Master’s degree, and the remaining 16% were enrolled in Doctorate programs.
