Sean Higgins, the 43-year-old driver of the Jeep, has been charged with two counts of vehicular homicide in the second degree. The police report indicates that Higgins was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. Higgins admitted to consuming five to six beers before the accident, which he claimed contributed to his reckless driving and the subsequent fatal collision.

During a court appearance on Friday, Higgins did not enter a plea and is being held without bond at the Salem County Correctional Facility. His next hearing is scheduled for September 5. Judge Michael J. Silvanio informed Higgins that the charges could lead to a maximum sentence of 10 years.
