Spanish-American War: RESULTS OF THE WAR

Arlington. cr: HC

The war had ended with a total US victory. 385 Americans died in the battles, but almost another 2,000 died from disease during the war. By end of the war the Spanish navy was decimated.

The US had captured Philippines, Puerto Rico and Cuba. The Spanish had no choice but to accept the US terms. The guerillas who had fought the Spanish had expected the United States to give the Philippines independence, but the United States was in no rush.

The United States spent years fighting the guerillas. Puerto Rico remains an United States commenwealth to this day.
