Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships : The Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships for the academic year 2024-2025 present an opportunity for international students pursuing master’s, PhD, or postdoctoral studies in Switzerland. These scholarships offer comprehensive financial support, covering tuition fees, stipends, housing, health insurance, and various student-related expenses.

Administered by the Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students (FCS), these scholarships aim to foster collaborative research and cooperation with more than 180 countries. The selection process is competitive, considering candidates’ profiles, the quality of their research projects or artistic works, and the potential for future research collaboration.

For the 2024 batch, there are two distinct types of scholarships:

  1. Swiss Art Scholarship:
    • Designed for students pursuing arts-related degrees for their initial master’s degree in Switzerland.
    • Applicable for study at any Swiss conservatory or university of the arts.
  2. Swiss Research Scholarship:
    • Open to postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers across all disciplines.
    • Candidates should possess at least a master’s degree and intend to undertake research or advanced studies at the doctoral or postdoctoral level.
    • Research scholarships are granted for study at Swiss cantonal universities, universities of applied sciences, and the two federal institutes of technology.

The FCS evaluates scholarship applications based on the candidate’s profile, the quality of the research project or artistic work, and the potential for future research collaboration.

Eligibility Criteria:

To be considered for Swiss Excellence Scholarships, candidates must meet specific requirements:

  • Residency: Applicants residing in Switzerland for more than one year at the scholarship’s commencement in September 2024 are ineligible.
  • Academic Sponsorship: A letter of acceptance from an academic host professor at a chosen Swiss university is required.
  • Research Proposal: Candidates must submit a detailed research proposal outlining the novelty of the research, execution plan, and the role of the Swiss university and scholarship in supporting the project.
  • Language Proficiency: Proficiency in the required language for research or studies is mandatory.
  • Previous Scholarship: Individuals who have previously received a Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship are not eligible to apply for a second scholarship.
  • Relocation: Scholarship recipients are expected to relocate to Switzerland for the grant period.
