On October 3rd, 1935 Italy invaded Ethiopia under several pretexts for the invasion. Actually, the only real reason was Mussolini’s nationalist expansionist interest.

The Italian advance was initially slow. By Spring 1936, however, the Italians had begun heavy bombing and used poison gas. The Ethiopians were quickly defeated and Addis Ababa was captured on May 5, 1936.
