Shireen Abu Akleh’s Assassination: Israeli Terrorism and the Double Standards

“Impunity in the holy land. Will Israel be held to account for killing Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh?” (Al Jazeera). Shireen Abu Akleh was a Christian Palestinian journalist who worked as a reporter for Al Jazeera for 25 years and was one of the most prominent names across the Middle East for her decades of reporting on the Israeli raids, and atrocities in occupied Palestinian territories.

Shireen’s: The Middle East

The Middle East region, especially Palestine has become a hotspot for decades, starting from the advent of the Jews’ migration from Europe to the region in the 20th century. Later, the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948 as a sovereign state in Palestine nailed the conflicts to eternity.

The Arabs and Israelis fought several wars, popular among which are the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, the 1956 Suez Canal Crisis, the 1967 Six-Day War and the 1973 Yom Kippur War (Check Arab-Israeli Wars’ tag for more).

During the Funeral procession for Shireen, Israeli forces still disturbed the peaceful atmosphere by attacking the mourners and almost letting the coffin carrying the dead body drop.

”Israeli police have fired tear gas and attempted to arrest mourners at the funeral in Jerusalem of Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, who was shot dead whilst covering Israeli raid.”

Shireen’s Assassination: The World Response

The reaction against the assassination of Shireen Abu Akleh by the Israeli forces barely remains with those who are in one way or the other are concerned with Palestine. Al Jazeera which is directly involved in the matter plays a significant role in relating the atrocities of Israel to the world, while other countries also follow.

However, this may not have any significant results. That is, Israel may not be held accountable for this unfortunate, inhumane act. Rather, the propaganda-based channels are always there to deliberately sell distorted stories to the world, which is now full of ignoramuses that accept media broadcasts based on their interests (especially beliefs in this sense).

Shireen’s Assassination: The UN Response

According to the Guardian, “The UN security council has unanimously condemned the killing of Palestinian-American Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Aqleh while she was covering an Israeli army raid in the occupied West Bank.”

There were significant resolutions established by the United Nations to remedy the crisis in Palestine. However, Israel has been so aggressive and not ever wanting to take to this resolution concerning the UN recommended plan. Israel keeps occupying territories and expunging the Palestinian map gradually.

When Russia invaded Ukraine, it began a major trend globally and the United States especially supported Ukraine with all kinds of support.

But when the Israeli forces invaded and distracted prayers of the Muslims in Masjid Al Aqsa and occupied East Jerusalem, Hamas was calmed by international bodies, pleading the body not to resort to force against Israel.

In April 2022, “Israeli forces raided the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem with medics reporting at least 158 Palestinians injured in the ensuing violence as hundreds were detained.”

To restore eternal peace, why is Israel not forced by the United Nations to take to the recommended plan of the UN? What a failed globe!
